Today’s Tiny Topic is all about procrastination. You know, that thing we all like to put off talking about. I certainly have no magic cure… but I do have a few nuggets to offer my fellow procrastinators. Hopefully at least one of these pieces of inspiration will speak to you, propel you in the right direction to overcome procrastination, and motivate you to get productive!

Quote #1: “Nothing is so fatiguing as the eternal hanging on of an uncompleted task.”— William James

YES to this! A wise person once told me that one of the most glorious feelings is getting something done ahead of schedule. And she was right!

Friendly tip: Use free resources like Asana to create due dates for tasks. That way, you can finish tasks early and stay on top of your game. If you reprioritize your to-do’s, you’ll be working ahead of schedule and get the project done in no time.

Quote #2: “The secret of getting ahead is getting started.”— Mark Twain

One of the best tips I have ever received is to get started simply by taking ONE step in the right direction. Just commit to one thing and then you can take a break. The satisfaction of completing that one task will propel you forward, but you have to take that first step.

Quote #3: “The really happy people are those who have broken the chains of procrastination, those who find satisfaction in doing the job at hand. They’re full of eagerness, zest, productivity. You can be, too.”— Norman Vincent Peale

Ahhh — good ol’ Norman! This quote makes me want to pull out my copy of The Power of Positive Thinking right now! As you overcome procrastination with one healthy habit at a time, you will slowly start to be more productive. When you feel the desire creep up to push off a task, you’ll be able to recognize it and take the proper steps to get your projects in on time.

Bonus item:I have one more nugget for you in the form of a Ted Talk Inside the Mind of a Master Procrastinator. It is hilarious and really gives an accurate account of what goes on in your mind so you can identify what is happening and tell that monkey to knock it off. When you’re done watching, you’ll be racing to tackle your tasks!
